Probably one of the coolest things I’ve done on an Ayahuasca retreat was getting to plant my own on my first day here.
At Wanay Community everyone who comes gets to plant one, it’s the first thing you do before any medicine is drunk, giving back to this amazing plant that gives so much and the ecosystem it comes from.
One of the big problems with the rise in ‘Ayahuasca’ tourism the last few years has seen the depletion of Ayahuasca plants in the Amazon, as is the case with a common human behaviour of taking more and giving back less to nature.
Especially as these plants can take 20 years to reach maturity for use in the brew made for healing ceremonies, it’s important that this practise is promoted more sustainably, so that the tool that is helping to heal and raise human consciousness on such a large scale is protected and prolonged.
This will also in turn help to protect the ecosystem that it comes from, which will help the local communities and people that are involved in the project by receiving opportunities, training and financial support.
You can plant from a distance as well at PlantAyahuasca.com
